A piece of metal needs to be sufficiently heated in order to be hot forged.
The temperature rises over the metal's recrystallization point during hot forging. In order to prevent strain hardening of the metal during deformation, this kind of intense heat is required. Isothermal forging is a hot forging technique that is effective at keeping some metals, notably super alloys, from oxidising.
